The following are programs offered independently by our consultants.
MBSR is the oldest and arguably most popular mindfulness-based treatment program, with the broadest range of treatment applications. It is a therapeutic and educational program used and researched as an adjunct to the treatment of numerous medical and non-medical conditions. It was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University Massachusetts Medical Center in the late 1970s and is described in his book Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness. MBSR is formatted as an 8 week program consisting of 2-3 hour once weekly group sessions as well as one 5-7 ½ hour Saturday session. Group size is up to 30 people. 45-70 minutes of daily homework exercises are practiced 6 days a week.
MBSR is offered independently of The Mindfulness Institute.ca by Catherine L. Phillips MD, FRCP(C) and co-led by Shreyasi Gollapudi MD, FRCP(C) and Diana Meakins MD, FRCP(C) in Edmonton, AB. Click here for the MBSR Program Information and Physician Referral Form. The next program will begin in late 2013 with two groups being offered: one on Mondays, 3:00-5:30 p.m. and one on Thursdays, 5:00-7:30 p.m., (dates to be announced soon). Each group consists of eight weeknights and one Saturday (9:00-4:00 p.m.). A physician’s referral is required; participants will be contacted by telephone to arrange for a pre-group orientation/assessment appointment in September 2013.
